"Hello, my name is Shawn Lord, and I have been a teacher for over thirty years. In 2014, I launched my own business as a traveling science teacher for preschool through 2nd grade. My hands-on approach proved so effective that I was invited to speak at numerous local events and eventually at major conferences such as NAEYC, NSTA, and Head Start. After retiring from the circuit in 2020, I briefly taught reading online in 2023, but quickly realized that the virtual format limited my ability to use the strategies I knew would help students succeed. Today, I work as a homeschool teacher and limited speaking engagements, drawing on my expertise in kinesthetic methods to make reading and math engaging, interactive, and memorable."
Dyslexia
One area where my teaching strategies make a powerful difference is with students who struggle with Dyslexia. These learners often face unique challenges, but by using hands-on, multisensory techniques, I create opportunities for them to experience reading and math in a way that feels natural and engaging. Movement, interaction, and the five senses work together to unlock understanding, helping students gain confidence and discover that learning can be both joyful and achievable.
